Cohutta Fishing Company is situated conveniently in the middle of the Trout Capital of Georgia, Fannin County.

The Toccoa River, flowing just outside of downtown Blue Ridge, Georgia (where Cohutta is headquartered) has two sections—Upper and Lower. The Upper Toccoa River begins in the Blue Ridge mountains of the picturesque Chattahoochee National Forest and eventually flows into Blue Ridge Lake. Seasonally stocked, this upper portion of the Toccoa has a state-designated “Delayed Harvest” section through the Fall, Winter, and Spring which allows only catch-and-release on artificial lures. The Lower Toccoa River, or the “Tailwater” section, flows out of the bottom of Blue Ridge Dam and maintains cool water year-round.

We offer both float and wade trips, fly fishing for Brown and Rainbow Trout, on the Toccoa River and some of its tributaries.

Public Access Wade Trips (on foot, in the water) take place on one of the public access points on the Toccoa Tailwater. These trips are great for novice fly anglers or for those looking to learn the area. We recommend avoiding these trips on busy weekends, as we may be limited by the size of the access and by the number of other people fishing! We can accommodate up to 4 anglers per access point.

Private Access Wade Trips are done on one of four different streams, each possessing its own character. These streams offer solitude, larger than average rainbow and brown trout, and the exquisite scenery the Blue Ridge Mountains are famous for. Both the beginner and advanced angler will benefit from this exclusive opportunity. If you’re a newcomer to the sport, these trips allow the guide to spend more quality individual time with you to get you dialed in. And the advanced angler will enjoy the technical challenge and potential huge catch that trophy trout fishing in streams has to offer. Call us for details on the individual private streams—we’re more than happy to talk about what each place has to offer!

Toccoa River Float Trips for Trout are done in either a western-style drift boat or in framed fishing rafts, and your fishing guide will be rowing you down the river as well as putting you on fish. We can accommodate up to two anglers per boat. Half days are most popular on the Toccoa Tailwater. This section is dam-regulated by the Tennessee Valley Authority (TVA) and the generation schedule doesn’t always allow a full day float. We will do our best to get in a full day on request. These trips are known for producing better numbers of average-sized rainbow and brown trout than you will find on a typical wade trip, as we cover more water. You also have a small chance at some of the true trophy-sized trout that reside in the Toccoa, but these fish are well-educated and not easy to come by!

Warm Water Fly Fishing

Striper Float Trips

Striper Float Trips are great for experienced anglers to tangle with a saltwater class fish without driving to the coast. Striper fishing is similar to hunting, but when you hook up, it’s like hooking into a freight train. It is definitely quality over quantity. Anglers are required to have a lot of fly fishing experience for these trips. We are casting saltwater weight fly rods using intermediate and sinking lines with big baitfish flies. Our Striper season runs from May through September while these fish are doing their annual spawning run out of the reservoirs and up the rivers.

Carp Trips

You don’t have to go to the coast to sight fish on flats. We have some here on a few of our local lakes that we use skiffs or drift boats to target carp. Carp cruise muddy flats on lakes feeding on insects and crawfish. This makes fishing for them very similar to redfishing. Carp are one of the most elusive and spooky fish on fly rods, but one of the most rewarding to catch. They are one of the few freshwater fish to get you into your backing quickly. We recommend you can cast accurately at distance to be able to catch these fish. Even with that presentation is everything.

Bass Float Trips

Bass Float Trips are done in an hour’s vicinity of Blue Ridge. Our Bass floats target a variety of different species such as Alabama Spotted Bass, Redeye Bass, and Smallmouth bass in some locations. Depending on what species you’d like to target, there are different rivers we can take you. These rivers will have the same water and beautiful scenery as the waters we guide for trout on. When it’s too hot to trout fish, it’s the perfect time to catch bass on dry flies imitating Cicadas, Dragon flies, and Frogs. Experience with a fly rod is recommended.
