Fishing Report 1/17

The Etowah is still cold, dirty, and high, and the conditions for the next week don’t look very promising. Until we get some lower flows and better water temperatures, the Etowah is going to be tough. We don’t recommend getting on the river during generation.

Not much has changed in Blue Ridge from the last week: the Toccoa Tailwater section is now sluicing at 1600 cfs until further notice, so wade fishing will be a bust until this changes. The Toccoa Delayed Harvest as of today is at 781 cfs and falling. The forecast in Blue Ridge for this week is calling for a couple of days of rain, falling temperatures, and potentially snow showers, so the DH may or may not continue dropping depending on these conditions. High water floats and small mountain streams are your best bet in the Blue Ridge Area. Private waters are also a good bet, so give us a shout at the shop if you want to get a guide trip set up. Fish places that fish can get out of the heavy flows and deep: heavy flies and split shot will get them. For you streamer junkies, we’ve got some new colors of both Sparkle Minnows and Kreelex’s in the Blue Ridge location, and they look tasty – other flies that will work include articulated patterns, Rainbow Warriors, Lucent Hare’s Ear and Lucent Pheasant Tails, Pat’s Rubber Legs, Squirmy Worms, egg patterns, mop flies, and stonefly imitations.

Don’t forget to stop by our Blue Ridge Location this Saturday, the 19th. We’re hosting a tying night starting at 6PM. Please RSVP on our facebook page if you plan on coming.
