Etowah River Fishing Report 8/1/2018

Aug 2, 2018 | Uncategorized | 0 comments

The Etowah is blown out from all the rain this week and near constant generation from Allatoona dam has the river unfishable. Once the river gets back to normal the fishing will go back to will be business as usual. Striper fishing is good and the fish are still in summer mode. Intermediate lines and long casts have been the key to success, flies like Umpqua’s Major Mullet, Large Decievers, and Fulling Mill’s Predator Pounder will get the job done. Use caution when handling fish this time of year, the water temps are warming and its much easier to stress fish out to the point of death during this time. Keep fish in the water as much as possible!

Bass fishing has really taken off, Annual cicadas have some of the bigger bass looking up making for a strong popper bite. Low flows will spread fish out across the river so target banks and overhanging trees but don’t be afraid to throw to structure in the middle of the river as well. The popper bite on the Etowah is some of the most fun fishing of the year so be sure to come in and get the right flies for your next trip!

Check the Generation schedule before you plan your trip! We do not recommend that you float the Etowah if Allatoona dam is releasing water!
