Nothing has changed this week from last, The Etowah is stained from the recent rain and will probably be tough for the next few days so look for the water to be clearing up and the fishing to improve hopefully by mid week. The longer generations should help flush some of the dirty water and clear the river but it will take some time. Temps are hovering between 68 and 74 Degrees at Allatoona Dam and the warming temps mean the mid-day fishing will get tougher and tougher from here on out. They Key to Striper success for the remainder of summer will be getting out early or fishing late in the evening. Fly selection should include a few of your favorite baitfish patterns in the 3-5 inch range, a couple of our favorites include Thalken’s Cruiser in Shad or Anchovy, Major Mullet, and Murdich Minnows.
Bass fishing is good and the topwater bite should be coming on strong with the warming water temps and the arrival of the yearly Cicada hatch. Big green Cicadas hatch yearly here in the southeast and the Bass key in on these clumsy flying insects so be sure to stock up on plenty of green BoogleBugs before you head to the river!
